I support a just transition to renewable energy generation and storage. I support expansion of rooftop solar, home and community batteries, and the electrification of households and small businesses.
In principle, I support commercial-scale solar, wind and hydro when it is located in the right place and the community has been presented the evidence, listened to and given an opportunity to negotiate local benefits.
Australia is uniquely positioned to take full advantage of our abundant sunshine, wind and land mass to fulfil a large percentage of our energy needs. I firmly believe that we need to transition our energy supply away from fossil fuels, to reduce our carbon emissions and minimise potential impacts of further global warming.
I do not support the expansion of new coal and gas projects and believe we must prioritise our current gas reserves for domestic use and to power our heavy industries. While gas will be used for baseload power generation, its economic viability for this purpose is decreasing as the transition to renewable energy grows.
The transition away from fossil fuels must include investment in alternative fuel sources so that we can diversify our energy market, achieve our legislated emissions reduction targets and set up the nation for a more sustainable future.
