Integrity in Politics for Forrest

Improving transparency and accountability in the Federal parliament

Trust in politics is at an all time low. Australians are fed up with career politicians listening to lobbyists instead of the local people they represent. Big corporations are influencing policy through campaign donations and lobbying in Parliament House.

The major parties are locking us out of the political process, our voices go unheard and the needs of our communities are unmet. Local priorities — like healthcare, housing, and regional infrastructure — should not be sidelined by party politics.

As a doctor, I’ve spent 25 years earning trust, one patient at a time. In Parliament, I’ll bring the same straight-talking, solutions-focused approach. I’m transparent about my campaign donations, and the only people I’m accountable to is you. It’s time for honest leadership that puts our communities first.

This is what a lack of integrity looks like:

  • Taxpayer money is used to win votes in marginal electorates while traditionally safe seats like Forrest are overlooked and underfunded

  • Bankrolled by vested interests, the major parties promise to make positive changes but return to ‘business as usual’ once elected

  • Without campaign donation transparency and truth in advertising laws, voters have no idea who is funding the major parties and whether they’re acting honestly

  • Big developers bypass local communities and councils, ignoring the concerns of residents

Here’s how I’ll fight for integrity in politics:

Accountability for spending of public money

Australians are fed up with the major parties pork-barrelling public money to win votes in marginal seats during election campaigns. Tax-payer’s money should be spent on projects that have merit and in communities where it is needed most. Our taxes are not being reinvested in our regional communities - we deserve our fair share of federal funding.

Legislating truth in political advertising

Australians deserve to have confidence in the people who are elected to represent them in Parliament. I support laws that ban misinformation and disinformation in political campaigns, and transparent, timely reporting on political donations.

Improving government transparency

We must stamp out secrecy and shine a light on corporate influence that distorts policymaking. I’ll push for Ministerial diaries to be publicly available so voters can see how lobbyists and corporate influences are shaping the political agenda.

Reigning in lobbyists

We must break the ‘jobs for mates’ cycle of backroom deals and corporate favoritism. We need a five year ban on outgoing ministers working in industries they once regulated, and a public register that records all lobbyists and interest groups visiting Parliament House.

Strengthening the National Anti-Corruption Commission

Independent MPs fought hard to secure a Federal integrity commission in this term of government, but it needs urgent reform. We need public hearings when it’s in the public interest and broader powers for the NACC Inspector to keep the NACC in check.

Restoring fairness through electoral reforms

The deck is stacked in favour of the major parties, entrenching the two-party system. I will work to wind back new laws that make it harder for everyday people to represent their local community and push for reforms that restore fairness in federal election campaigns.

By reforming integrity we can rebuild public trust in federal politics.
